About the algorithm: Reaction-Diffusion is a phenomenon that occurs naturally all the time. The most common places you may have seen similar patterns are the coloring on certain animals (fish in particular) and in chemical reactions where you are seeing a physical representation of the change in space and time of the concentration of one or more chemical substances. Yeah science!
